About Where is my Room
Moving to a new city for college or coaching means finding a place to live from a distance, usually through brokers, outdated listings and photos that do not match reality. Where is my Room is our attempt to fix that.
What we do
We are a free, community-verified directory of PGs, hostels and flats. Listings are added and corrected by the people who actually live in or near those places, voted on by neighbours, and checked by moderators before they are shown. The goal is simple: you should know what a place is really like before you travel to see it.
How trust is built
- Local voting. Suggestions are put to members who live within a short distance of the place.
- Human moderation. Moderators review new listings, corrections and photos before they appear.
- Reputation. Each member has a hidden trust score. Good-faith contributions raise it; bad-faith ones lower it more.
- Renown and badges. Approved contributions earn public Renown, so helpful members are recognised.
- Privacy by design. No passwords, one-time email codes or Google sign-in, and hidden location data stripped from uploaded photos.
Who is behind it
Where is my Room was founded in 2026 as a solo-founder project, starting with students in Bilaspur. It is built as a fast, installable web app that works well on the budget phones most students use.
How we build
We develop the platform with the help of AI coding tools, including Claude from Anthropic, which lets a very small team ship carefully and quickly. Every change is still reviewed and tested by a person.
What is coming next
These are planned and not live yet:
- AI-assisted moderation, to help our moderators review submissions faster. People will still make the final decision.
- Search in plain English or Hindi, for example “girls PG near the university under ₹6000 with food”.
- Personalised room suggestions based on budget, location and preferences.
- Listing assistance, to turn rough details into clean, complete listings.
If we start sending any user-submitted content to a third-party AI service, we will update our Privacy Policy first.
